So many better French restaurants. Our server Mel, was very gracious and offered spot on food and wine suggestions. He also opened Chicago’s first certified-organic restaurant, Crust, in Wicker Park which shuttered in 2012 after a successful four-and-a-half year run.

Bistro Campagne is a warm and friendly neighborhood restaurant in the tradition of a true French bistro. Also the restaurant inside was very warm/hot inside without any lack of any fresh air or ventilation thus smelling everything that moved inside that was unpleasant at times. My wife and I shared a bowl of potato leek soup and a roasted beet and burrata salad for starters followed by the Halibut and Lentil special for my wife and the Cassoulet for me, both were beyond delicious.

The chicken entree was quite large and superb! The garlic and butter sauce was amazing, and made for the perfect dip for the hot, crusty bread we were served. On a Friday night, it was packed; reservations definitely recommended! Service was so accommodating, chef created a scrumptious and unexpected quiche, and our seasonal drink was delicious. The serving was large enough for us to share. Start with a large, savory bowl of soupe à l’oignon gratinée capped with a thick layer of melting Gruyère. The escargot was amazing with the piping hot baguette, and the bouillabaisse that is a seasonal specialty was every bit as good as I remembered it. Love the bistro and already plan to return on Wednesday for their prix fixe night!A charming neighborhood french bistro but with some serious cooking chops and friendly service. The escargot were good but not the best we've had (not garlicky enough for us) but the mussels were outstanding. The pork chop and the bouillabaisse were excellent. The special pear salad was skimpy.
