It writes beautifully, no smudging or flow problems. Just because I'm lazy and the ink cartridges are convenient, I have not taken the time to use this pen with my Cross converter and Noodler's Black ink yet, but at this point it seems like it should handle the change well. I am using it with the ink cartridge that came with it but I hope to order the refillable cartridge from cross and use it with the ink bottle which is what I prefer. The flat black looks good and it has a good non-slip feel. Even after a long rest, it always writes. But overall, for a low cost fountain pen for daily use, the pen is good. Part of the Cross Classic collection, the Century II takes the Classic Century as its base and updates it with a bolder, wider profile. I own other brands of fountain pens, but the Century II is the best, by far. The pen is supposed to be thin, just like all the other Century pens.
